A Brief History
In the summer of 2000, John Floyd of Bossier City asked Gary Norman, Director of Shreveport Parks & Recreation and Ike Salone, President of The Lakeside Golfers Association, if either had heard of an organization called, The First Tee. Both said no. Mr. Floyd told Gary Norman that he had a letter outlining the program, and how the program could help improve the golf course.
John Floyd forwarded the letter to Gary Norman, who then forwarded the letter to Ike Salone. It was at this time that Mr. Salone decided to call The First Tee for more information about the program. Our very first contact with The First Tee was, Ms. Kathy Thompson. Ms Thompson sent Ike an application, brochure and directory of existing The First Tee Chapters in other cities. The application for a Chapter in Shreveport, Louisiana was applied for by Ruth Lester and Ike Salone.
